Hurst Opens at Hascombe

This week, our Head of College Dominic Mott officially opened Hurst’s stables at Hascombe Equestrian Centre, set in the Heart of the South Downs National Park. Nine ponies and horses will be supervised by experts in the equestrian profession and, along with their riders, will benefit from some of the best training facilities of any equestrian school team in the country. From rehabilitation and indoor exercise areas to sand schools and show venues, the opportunities at Hascombe are extremely exciting for the future of equestrian at Hurst.

The College equestrian teams have been growing from strength to strength, both in numbers and standard, and the Hascombe stables will enable pupils to weave more equestrian training into their busy Hurst timetables. Moving forwards, equestrian will be one of the co-curricular ‘electives’ that pupils can opt for in their activity time, and those who live further afield will be able to stable their horses at Hascombe so that they can ride them during the week.

The stables will offer a year-round solution that fits in with both school and family life, whilst enabling more pupils to get involved in the equestrian programme at Hurst. As a sport, equestrian encourages pupils across all year groups to mix and form friendships, whilst also developing key skills in teamwork, discipline, and confidence that will serve them well beyond the competition arena.
